According to the US Embassy in Brazil, starting April 10, 2025, a new visa policy will go into effect requiring all American citizens to have a valid visa to enter the country. This policy will essentially revert to pre-2019 rules and is occurring due to the fact that the US and Brazil have failed to sign a visa waiver agreement. Being as Brazilians are experiencing visa restrictions in order to enter the US, Brazil is responding with those same restrictions for American travelers.

Luckily, the new visa application process shouldn’t be too inconvenient. Anyone not visiting Brazil for business purposes should be able to apply for an eVisa online for $80.90, which is the same price Brazilians are charged for an American eVisa. Once issued, the eVisa will remain valid for 10 years according to CNN.

Brazilian Visa Application Requirements

As part of the application process, you’ll need to provide your personal information, state the purpose of your trip, provide your temporary Brazilian address, show proof of your return airline tickets, and show proof of your income. You will need to provide proof of at least $2,000 in financial resources to apply for the visa. If you cannot meet this number, you will need a Brazilian sponsor or resident to provide proof on your behalf.

In the end, although the new Brazil visa requirement will be a bit of a hassle, it will be more than worth it to see everything Brazil has to offer. And speaking of financial resources, make sure to purchase travel medical insurance before your trip. It can provide financial protection in case of a medical condition or mishap abroad, ensuring your financial resources stay intact.
